1. India's ranking has climbed 30 notches to reach 100th place in the list of 190 countries in the World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking. India's rank was 130 last year.

विश्वबैंक की कारोबार सुगमता रिपोर्ट रैंकिंग में भारत की रैंकिंग 30 पायदान सुधरकर 190 देशों की सूची में 100वें स्थान पर पहुंच गयी है। पिछले वर्ष भारत की रैंकिंग 130 थी।

2. The United Nations has appointed Norwegian national Knut Ostby as an interim resident coordinator in Myanmar and resident representative for the UN Development Program in the country.

संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने नॉर्वेई नागरिक क्नट ओस्टबाई को म्यामांर में अपना अंतरिम स्थानीय समन्वयक और देश में संयुक्त राष्ट्र विकास कार्यक्रम के लिये स्थानीय प्रतिनिधि नियुक्त किया।

3. Neelamani N Raju, a 1983 batch IPS officer became the first female Director General and Inspector General of Police of Karnataka. She will replace Rupak Kumar Dutta.

4. App based ride-hailing company Uber announced the launch of two new products uberACCESS and uberASSIST in Bengaluru, supported by Mphasis, a leading cloud and cognitive services provider. The aim of these apps is to address day-to-day transportation requirements of senior citizens and those with accessibility needs.
एप आधारित टैक्सी सेवा देने वाली कंपनी उबर ने प्रमुख क्लाउड सेवा देने वाली कंपनी एम्फसिस के साथ मिलकर बेंगलुरु में अपनी दो नयी सेवाओं ‘उबर एक्सेस’ और ‘उबर असिस्ट’ को शुरु करने की घोषणा की। इन दोनों सेवाओं का उद्देश्य विशेष तौर पर सक्षम और वरिष्ठ नागरिकों की रोजमर्रा की आवश्यकता को पूरा करना है।

1. Former BCCI General Manager Dr MV Sridhar, who had recently resigned from his position, passed away. He was 51.

हाल में अपने पद से इस्तीफा देने वाले बीसीसीआई के पूर्व महाप्रबंधक डा. एमवी श्रीधर का निधन हो गया। वह 51 वर्ष के थे।

2. India signed a USD 200 million loan agreement with World Bank to facilitate investment in the agricultural sector and increase productivity in Assam.

भारत ने असम में कृषि क्षेत्र में निवेश करने तथा राज्य की उत्पादकता बढ़ाने के लिए विश्व बैंक के साथ 20 करोड़ डॉलर के ऋण अनुबंध पर हस्ताक्षर किया।

3. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Giriraj Singh launched MSME Delayed Payment Portal – MSME Samadhaan (http://msefc.msme.gov.in), empowering micro and small entrepreneurs across the country to directly register their cases relating to delayed payments by Central Ministries/Departments/CPSEs/State Governments.

केंद्रीय राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) गिरिराज सिंह नें सूक्ष्‍म, लघु और मझौले उद्यम विलंब भुगतान पोर्टल- एमएसएमई समाधान (http://msefc.msme.gov.in) का उद्घाटन किया। इस पोर्टल से देश भर के छोटे उद्यमियों को फायदा होगा। इस पोर्टल पर ये उद्यमी केंद्र सरकार के मंत्रालयों/विभागों/राज्‍य सरकारों से अपने भुगतान में देरी के मामलों को दर्ज करा सकेंगे।

6. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been awarded with the ‘Golden Peacock Award’ under the Global Leadership in Public Service and Economic Transformation category in London. He received the award for his excellence in public service.

7. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released a coffee table book on the Department of Defence Production (DDP), titled ‘A journey towards self-reliance’. The first ever coffee table book on the department, it chronicles the post-independence years of development, indigenization and production of arms, ammunition and defence equipment, with a view to achieve self-reliance for the Armed Forces of India.

Piyush Goyal launches first set of solar plants with capacity of 5 MW

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launched the first set of solar plants with a total capacity of 5 megawatt in New Delhi area. The project is part of the government's National Solar Mission in which Indian Railways plans to commission one thousand Megawatt solar plants across its network. The railways are working towards speeding up its electrification and road-map for identifying various solutions to achieve larger goal of transforming Railways as a 100 per cent de-carbonised and most energy efficient.

Gokul Natesan Second Indian-Origin Player to be Signed by NBA G-League Side

Gokul Natesan is the 97th pick in the NBA draft to became only the second Indian-origin player to be signed by an NBA G-League side. Amjyot Singh recently became the third Indian to walk into the National Basketball Association (NBA) league. The Managing Director for India of NBA is Yannick Colaco.

Puducherry Becomes an Associate Member of BCCI

The Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) was chosen by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) as an associate member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This means Puducherry will be allowed to play the Ranji Trophy in 2018.

GMR Hyderabad Airport, Malaysia Tourism, MAHB Sign Pact to Promote Tourism

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) have come together to promote the growth of tourism traffic. An MoU was inked to promote tourism from the catchment area of Hyderabad to Malaysia and also explore new locations for connectivity. Over 100,000 passengers travel between Hyderabad and Malaysia every year and the traffic has grown by 28% CAGR in the last five years.

Qatar Introduces Minimum Wage for First Time

The tiny Gulf state host of the 2022 football World Cup Qatar committed that it will introduce a minimum wage for workers in the country. The announcement was made by labour and social affairs minister Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi. The announcement came a day before a meeting of the UN’s International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Indian Navy approves new mission-based deployment plan

During the ongoing Naval Commanders’ Conference, Indian Navy approved a “new mission-based deployment” plan under which mission-ready ships and aircrafts will be deployed along critical sea lanes of communications. A new transition cycle for ships from maintenance periods to operational deployments has also been approved by Chief Admiral Suni Lanba. Several operational issues and efforts to make Indian Navy self-reliant and modernize its warfare capability were also discussed at the conference.

Chile named best country to visit in 2018

Lonely Planet, the travel guide company, ranked Chile as the number one country to visit in 2018, in its Best in Travel 2018 list. In the top 10 countries category, Chile was ranked the number one country. It was followed by South Korea and Portugal in the 2nd and 3rd positions. In the top 10 cities category, Seville of Spain was ranked as number one. In the top 10 regions category, Belfast & the Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland was ranked number one. In the top 10 best value, Tallinn of Estonia was given the number one rank.

World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is observed on 27 October

World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is observed globally on 27 October every year across the world. The theme of this year is "Discover, remember and share". The General Conference of UNESCO approved the commemoration of a World Day for Audiovisual Heritage in 2005 as a mechanism to raise general awareness of the need to preserve and safeguard important audiovisual material for future generations.

India has 3rd Highest Number of Family-Owned Businesses

India has 108 publicly-listed family-owned businesses, third highest in the world, while China tops the tally with 167 such companies followed by the US which has 121, according to the Credit Suisse report. As per the Credit Suisse Research Institute's (CSRI) latest "CS Family 1000" report, with an average market capitalisation of USD 6.5 billion, India ranks 5th in Asia Pacific excluding Japan, and 22nd globally, in terms of average m-cap.

1. Veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar has been honoured with the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award.

मशहूर लेखक और गीतकार जावेद अख्तर को हृदयनाथ मंगेशकार पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

2. Anil Khaitan, Chairman of SNK Corp has taken over as the new President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. SNK Corporation chairman, Anil khaitan has replaced Gopal Jeevrajaka.

अनिल खेतान पीएचडी वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंडल के नये अध्यक्ष बने हैं। एसएनके कॉरपोरेशन के चेयरमैन अनिल खैतान ने गोपाल जीवराजका का स्थान लिया है।

3. The European Parliament awarded the prestigious Sakharov human rights prize to the beleaguered Venezuelan opposition, calling for a "peaceful transition to democracy" in the crisis-hit country. The prize was awarded to the Venezuelan National Assembly, dominated by opposition parties, and to political prisoners.

5. Sujit Prasad took charge as the executive director of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

सुजीत प्रसाद ने बाजार नियामक भारतीय प्रतिभूति और विनिमय बोर्ड (सेबी) के कार्यकारी निदेशक का पदभार संभाला।

6. Famous painter of Uttarakhand, B Mohan Negi passed away. He was 65.

उत्त्तराखंड के प्रख्यात चित्रकार बी मोहन नेगी का निधन हो गया। वह 65 वर्ष के थे।

7. Leading bourse BSE has joined hands with Ebix Inc to set up a joint venture firm for building a robust insurance distribution network in India. Ebix is a leading international supplier of on-demand software and e-commerce services to the insurance, financial, e-governance and healthcare industries.

प्रमुख एक्सचेंज बंबई शेयर बाजार ने संयुक्त उद्यम कंपनी के गठन के लिए ईबिक्स से हाथ मिलाया। इस करार का मकसद देश में एक मजबूत बीमा वितरण नेटवर्क बनाना है। ईबिक्स मांग पर बीमा, वित्त, ई-गवर्नेंस और स्वास्थ्य सेवा उद्योग को सॉफ्टवेयर और ई-कामर्स सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराती है।

8. Renowned Malayalam writer and novelist Punathil Kunjabdulla passed away. He was 77.

प्रख्यात मलयालम लेखक और उपन्यासकार पुनाथिल कुंजाब्दुल्ला का निधन हो गया। वह 77 वर्ष के थे।

9. Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an agreement with the Government of India for a loan of 6.55 million dollars for Karnataka. This loan will be given to stop the coastal erosion on the western coast of Karnataka.

एशियाई विकास बैंक एडीबी ने भारत सरकार के साथ कर्नाटक के लिए 6.55 करोड़ डालर का ऋण समझौता किया। यह ऋण कर्नाटक के पश्चिमी तटों पर तटीय क्षरण रोकने और उसका रखरखाव करने के लिये दिया जायेगा।

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a global conference on consumer protection in New Delhi. This is the first time that an international conference on consumer protection is being organised by India for countries of the region. 22 Asian countries are participating in this conference.

According to the Global Passport Power Rank 2017 by global financial advisory firm Arton Capital, Singapore has the world's "most powerful" passport and in this way became the first Asian country to be included in this list with India figuring at 75th position, three notches better than its previous ranking. Germany is ranked second, followed by Sweden and South Korea in third place.

India’s First Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra for Skilling in Smart Cities

The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated India's first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) for Skilling in Smart Cities, in collaboration with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). It is launched under skill India Mission. The ministers also laid the foundation for a Skill Development Centre at Moti Bagh and a Centre of Excellence at Dharam Marg, New Delhi.

Rakesh Asthana Appointed as CBI Special Director

Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana was appointed the special director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. (CBI). Asthana, a 1984-batch IPS officer, had been serving in the Central Bureau of Investigation as additional director. He is among eight senior police officers promoted by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

3. PM Modi Inaugurates the first phase of Ghogha-Dahej RORO ferry service in Gujarat

ii. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first phase of ambitious Ghogha-Dahej Roll-on Roll-off ferry service at Ghogha in Bhavnagar district in Gujarat.

ii. With the opening of this 615-cores rupees ferry service, the distance between Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions could be covered in less than an hour via-sea route. This passenger movement service reduced the distance between the Ghogha and Dahej from 310 kilometres by road to just 30 kilometres, which can be covered in one hour.

4. PMLA: Banks to now Match Original IDs with Photocopies

i. The Government has made it mandatory for banks and financial institutions to check the original identification documents of individuals dealing in cash above the prescribed threshold, to weed out the use of forged or fake copies.

ii. The Department of Revenue in the Finance Ministry has issued a gazette notification making an amendment to the Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Rules.

5. Honda overtakes Bajaj to seal No 2 spot in domestic bike sales

i. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has raced past Bajaj Auto to become the second biggest bike seller in India during the first half of the ongoing fiscal. Market leader Hero MotoCorp continued its hold on the segment selling 33,44,292 units in the first half of the fiscal as against 30,34,504 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 10.2 percent.

ii. During the April-September period this fiscal, HMSI sold a total of 10,48,143 motorcycles in the domestic market registering a growth of 19.8 percent. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto sold 10,10,559 units witnessing a decline of 10.45 percent, according to the latest data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In the comparable period last fiscal, HMSI sold 8,74,852 units as against Bajaj Auto’s 11,28,425 units.
