Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates 1st phase of PNG supply system in Bhubaneswar
Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated
the first phase of Piped Natural Gas supply system in Bhubaneswar,
Odisha.
In the first phase, 255 houses in Nalco Nagar in Chandrasekharpur of
Bhubaneswar were supplied with environment-friendly PNG.
As part of the City Gas Distribution project, around 25 thousand
households in twin-city Bhubaneswar and Cuttack would get PNG connection
by end of next year.
India and Russia to participate in first-ever tri-services military exercise
The first-ever Tri-Services Joint Exercise
between Indian and Russian Armed Forces, INDRA-2017 began.
The Indian contingent comprises of 350 personnel from Army, 80 from Air
Force, two IL 76 aircraft and one Frigate and Corvette each from the
Navy.
It is a landmark event in the history of Indo-Russian defense
co-operation and will strengthen mutual confidence, inter-operability
and enable sharing of best practices between both the armed forces.
World Statistics Day is celebrated on 20th October
At its 41st Session in February 2010, the United
Nations Statistical Commission proposed celebrating 20th October 2010 as
World Statistics Day.
It was first observed in the year 2010 and 2015.
It emphasizes the critical role of high-quality official statistical
information in analysis and informed policy decision-making in support
of sustainable development.
Environmental scientist Hans Joachim Schellnhuber receives Blue Planet Prize
Environmental scientist Hans Joachim Schellnhuber
received Blue Planet Prize, world’s most prestigious award for pioneers
in environmental science.
He is the second recipient of the Blue Planet Prize. She has been
awarded for her research about biodiversity and natural capital.
Blue Planet Prize was instituted by Asahi Glass Foundation ( an
affiliate of Asahi Glass manufacturing company of Japan) in 1992.
Sunny Verghese appointed as World Business Council for Sustainable Development Chairman from 2018
The World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD) appointed NRI businessman Sunny Verghese,
co-founder, and CEO of Singapore-based Olam International, as its new
chairman from 2018.
He succeeds Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever as the Chairman.
It is a global network of more than 200 CEOs who are responsible for a
combined revenue of more than $ 8.5 trillion and 19 million employees.
Assam Government rolls out new Tourism policy
Assam State Government rolled out ‘Tourism Policy
of Assam 2017’ with an aim to increase tourist inflow in the state by
at least two to three times within next five years.
In the policy, special emphasis has been laid on making the state a
preferred destination of filmmaking by offering a range of incentives to
movie producers.
This benefit will be offered only to those films in which 25 percent
shooting is done in Assam and 25 percent of cast and crew should be from
the state. Besides, 10 percent rebate will be offered if more than 50
percent of the entire shooting is done in Assam.
For constructing tourism units such as tourist lodges, hotels, resorts,
houseboats and floating restaurants in Assam, a capital investment
subsidy at the rate of 30 percent of the capital investment, subject to a
ceiling of Rs 1 crore will be provided to the investor by the State
Government.
Prime minister Narendra Modi to launch projects in Kedarnath
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit
Kedarnath a day before the Himalayan shrine dedicated to Shiva is closed
for six winter months.
The projects include construction of houses for purohits of Kedarnath,
repair of the bridle path to Kedarnath, construction of ghats in
Kedarpuri, flood protection work near Mandakini and Saraswati rivers,
and foundation-laying ceremony of a ‘samadhi sthal’ for Adi Sankara.
At least 4,000 people, including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra
Rawat and state ministers and BJP workers, are expected to be present on
the Kedarnath premises.
